Single Flute Carbide End Mill for Aluminum

Single-flute carbide end mills for high-speed slotting, side milling, pocket machining, profile cutting and trimming of aluminum, non-ferrous materials and engineering plastics.

The single cutting edge creates a large chip-evacuation space, while the polished flute and sharp cutting geometry help reduce cutting resistance, chip adhesion and built-up edge. This design is suitable for aluminum plates, profiles, thin-wall components, plastic parts and applications where fast chip removal is the main priority.

Manufactured from imported carbide rods with an approximately 0.8 μm grain size and 10% cobalt content. Uncoated and DLC rainbow-coated options, standard and extended lengths, custom dimensions, OEM laser marking and private-label packaging are available.

Description

SINGLE FLUTE END MILL · ALUMINUM · LARGE CHIP SPACE

Product Overview

This single-flute carbide end mill is designed for high-speed
slotting, side milling, pocket machining, profile cutting
and trimming of aluminum, non-ferrous materials and
engineering plastics.

The single cutting edge creates a large chip-evacuation
space, while the polished flute and sharp cutting geometry
help reduce cutting resistance, aluminum adhesion and
built-up edge. This makes the tool suitable for applications
where fast chip removal and a clean machined surface are
more important than increasing the number of cutting edges.

Recommended Machining Applications

The single-flute structure is suitable for high-speed
machining where unrestricted chip evacuation, low cutting
resistance and a sharp cutting edge are required.

01

Aluminum Slotting

Suitable for full-width slots and grooves where
the large flute space helps remove continuous
aluminum chips from the cutting area.

02

Profile and Side Milling

Designed for aluminum plates, profiles, sidewalls
and external contours requiring a sharp and
low-resistance cutting action.

03

Pocket Machining

Suitable for pockets and recessed features where
smooth chip evacuation helps reduce chip packing
and recutting.

04

Plastic and Panel Cutting

Suitable for engineering plastics, acrylic,
composite panels and selected soft materials
requiring clean edges and efficient chip removal.

Why Use a Single-Flute End Mill for Aluminum?

Compared with multi-flute tools, a single-flute cutter
provides more space for chip evacuation. This is especially
useful when machining aluminum at high spindle speeds or
when the machine cannot maintain a high feed rate per tooth.

Large Chip-Evacuation Capacity

  • One cutting edge creates maximum flute space
  • Suitable for long and continuous aluminum chips
  • Helps reduce chip packing inside the flute
  • Reduces the risk of chip recutting
  • Suitable for deep slots and pocket machining
  • Supports high-speed spindle applications

Sharp and Low-Resistance Cutting

  • Sharp cutting edge reduces material deformation
  • Polished flute supports smoother chip movement
  • Lower cutting resistance reduces tool load
  • Helps reduce burr formation
  • Helps limit built-up edge and material adhesion
  • Suitable for thin-wall and lightweight parts

Single-Flute Geometry and Cutting Performance

The carbide substrate, single-flute structure, polished
chip channel and sharp cutting edge work together to
improve chip evacuation and reduce cutting resistance
during aluminum machining.

01

0.8 μm Carbide Grain Size

Imported carbide rods with an approximately
0.8 μm grain size support cutting-edge consistency,
wear resistance and stable production quality.

02

10% Cobalt Content

The 10% cobalt content provides a balance of
carbide hardness, cutting-edge strength and
substrate toughness for non-ferrous machining.

03

Single-Flute Cutting Structure

One cutting edge creates a large flute channel
for efficient evacuation of aluminum and
plastic chips.

04

Large Chip Space

The large chip space helps reduce flute blockage
during high-speed slotting, pocketing and
profile machining.

05

Polished Flute Surface

The polished flute helps reduce friction between
the tool and the chip, supporting smoother chip
flow and reduced aluminum adhesion.

06

Sharp Cutting Edge

Sharp cutting geometry supports a clean shearing
action and helps reduce material deformation,
burrs and cutting pressure.

07

Low Cutting Resistance

The single-edge design reduces the number of
simultaneous cutting contacts and is suitable
for machines with limited feed capability.

08

Reduced Built-Up Edge

The sharp cutting edge, polished flute and
coating options help reduce material adhesion
under suitable machining conditions.

09

High-Speed Machining Capability

The single-flute structure is suitable for
high-spindle-speed machining where sufficient
feed per tooth must be maintained.

10

Uncoated or DLC Rainbow

Uncoated and DLC rainbow-coated configurations
are available according to the material,
lubrication condition and required tool life.

11

Walter Five-Axis Grinding

Walter five-axis precision grinding supports
stable dimensions, consistent flute geometry
and repeatable cutting-edge quality.

12

Precision Tool Inspection

Walter HELICHECK PLUS measurement and 50×
microscopic inspection are used to verify
profile accuracy and cutting-edge appearance.

Uncoated and DLC Rainbow-Coated Options

Coating selection should be based on the workpiece material,
silicon content, cutting speed, lubrication condition
and required tool life.

Uncoated Single-Flute End Mills

  • Retain a sharp cutting-edge profile
  • Low cutting resistance
  • Suitable for common aluminum grades
  • Suitable for engineering plastics and acrylic
  • Support clean chip formation

DLC Rainbow-Coated End Mills

  • Reduced friction at the cutting interface
  • Helps reduce aluminum adhesion
  • Improved wear resistance in selected applications
  • Suitable for selected aluminum-silicon alloys
  • Available according to customer requirements

When to Select a Single-Flute End Mill

Single-flute tools are particularly useful when chip
evacuation is the main limitation or when machine feed
capability is not high enough for multi-flute cutters.

Recommended Conditions

  • High spindle speed and moderate machine feed
  • Full-width slotting in aluminum
  • Deep pockets requiring large chip space
  • Thin-wall or lightweight aluminum parts
