Description

SQUARE END MILL · HARDENED STEEL · HRC60–68

Product Overview

This carbide square end mill is designed for side milling,
shoulder machining, flat-surface finishing and medium-to-fine
machining of hardened mold, die and tool steels in the
HRC60–68 hardness range.

It combines a 0.4 μm ultra-fine carbide substrate, 9% cobalt
content, DR3 bronze high-wear-resistant coating, a 68% reinforced
core and a 45° helix design to improve cutter rigidity, wear
resistance and machining stability.

Recommended Machining Applications

The square cutting profile, reinforced core and 45° helix are
designed mainly for stable side machining and controlled finishing
of high-hardness steel components.

01

Side Semi-Finishing

Suitable for controlled material removal from hardened
steel walls and peripheral surfaces before final finishing.

02

Side Finishing

Designed for stable finishing of straight walls,
external profiles and hardened mold surfaces.

03

Shoulder Machining

Supports machining of shoulders requiring controlled
wall geometry and a flat-bottom cutting profile.

04

Flat-Surface Finishing

Suitable for planar mold features, pocket bottoms
and flat hardened steel surfaces.

Square End Mill Geometry and Cutting Performance

The substrate, coating, reinforced geometry and controlled edge
preparation work together to improve wear resistance and cutting
stability in demanding hardened steel applications.

01

0.4 μm Ultra-Fine Carbide

The ultra-fine carbide substrate has an approximate grain
size of 0.4 μm, supporting high hardness, wear resistance
and consistent cutting-edge geometry.

02

9% Cobalt Content

A 9% cobalt content balances substrate hardness,
edge strength and resistance to fracture during
high-hardness steel machining.

03

DR3 Bronze Coating

The DR3 bronze high-wear-resistant coating helps resist
heat and abrasive wear at cutting temperatures up to
approximately 1300°C.

04

68% Reinforced Core

The large 68% core diameter increases cutter rigidity
and helps reduce tool deflection and vibration under
high cutting pressure.

05

0° to −5° Peripheral Rake

The controlled negative peripheral rake strengthens
the cutting edge and helps reduce premature chipping
during hardened steel machining.

06

45° Helix Design

The 45° helix supports smoother engagement and stable
cutting during side milling, shoulder machining and
medium-to-fine finishing.

07

Flat-Bottom Cutting Profile

The square-end profile is suitable for flat-bottom
pockets, shoulders, planar features and defined
wall-to-bottom transitions.

08

Automated Edge Honing

Automated rubber-bonded diamond polishing helps maintain
consistent preparation across all cutting edges, with
the honing value controlled within ±3 μm.

09

Walter Five-Axis Grinding

Walter five-axis precision grinding supports cutting-edge
sharpness, dimensional accuracy and repeatable tool geometry
for smoother hardened steel machining.

10

HRC60–68 Finishing Range

The tool is intended mainly for controlled semi-finishing
and finishing of hardened mold, die and tool steels within
the HRC60–68 range.
